Arthur Heurtley
In 1902 Arthur Heurtley commissioned two works, a home half a block away from Wright's studio and cottage in northern Michigan. The facade of the house looks monolithic with the roman red brick laid so that, at a distance, it gives the exterior it's own branded appearance. You will see overhanging eaves, with windows tucked up underneath, the ground floor walls going right up to the window sills of the first floor window.

The simple rectangular floor plan houses the living quarters above ground in typical Prairie fashion. However, the rooms of the house are within a simple rectangular plan which allows easier movements. Prairie style houses usually have features such as low-pitched roof, overhanging eaves, horizontal lines, central chimney, open floor plan, a series of small windows and one-story projections.

On the left of the house is the dining room, in the middle the
living room and on the right a porch that originally was open. At
the rear of the house on the same floor are the bedrooms. The house
got pretty run down over the years, but the latest owners have
restored it and turned it into two apartments. You can see
old pictures of the house provided by Helen Berkeley and Allen
Heurtley.
The house is located at 318 Forest Ave, Oak Park, IL, 60302. If you
